Barney’s is a family business that started in Bloomington, IL and has been in existence since November 1946. Barney’s had few employees, Barney, an excellent mechanic and Rosalee who did the buying, selling, and bookkeeping. In 1951 they relocated to St. Petersburg, FL where they purchased the property on Gandy Boulevard. Since then, they have purchased four adjoining sites and have added locations in Brooksville and Brandon. There are approximately 100 employees working at this time.

Over the years Barney’s has been franchised to sell AJS, BSA, BMW, CZ, Ducati, Indian, James, Jawa, Lambretta, Matchless, Moto Guzi, Norton, Puch, Sachs, WetJet, and Zundapp.

Today Barney’s of St Pete is proud to offer Yamaha, Honda, SeaDoo, Aprilla ,Can-Am , E-Ton and Vento. Barney's of Brandon is proud to offer Suzuki, Kawasaki, Can-Am, Seadoo and Yamaha. Barney offers everything from Scooters, to Motorcycles, to ATV, to Dirt Bikes, to Personal Watercraft, to JetBoats.

Besides carrying on a retail business, the company supports many other associations and industry programs which include: Marine Industry Association, Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, Pinellas County Waterway management, Florida Motorcycle Dealers Association, Yamaha Club Wave, SeaDoo Demo Days, Motorcycle Driver Ed Programs, Dirt Days, Learn to Ride and many others.

Adjoining businesses includes Barney’s Mini Storage which has four locations.
